What to Expect at Your First Visit

At Peach State Retina, we’re committed to making your first visit as smooth and reassuring as possible. We combine cutting-edge technology with compassionate care to ensure every patient receives the time and attention they deserve.

Why Your Visit May Take 1–2 Hours

Your first visit typically takes 1 to 2 hours because of the time needed for a comprehensive exam and pupil dilation. Dilation is a crucial part of the visit—it allows your retina specialist to clearly examine the back of the eye, including the retina, macula, and optic nerve. These structures are essential in diagnosing and managing conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears, and more. The dilation drops usually take about 20–30 minutes to fully take effect, and your vision may remain blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours afterward. Please bring sunglasses and consider arranging for someone to drive you home.

Save Time: Complete Forms in Advance

To help us provide the most efficient and personalized care, please complete your patient forms online before your visit. You can do this from your computer, tablet, or phone. This gives us important insight into your medical history, current medications, and prior conditions, which helps us create the best treatment plan for you.

What to Bring

  • Photo ID and insurance card(s)
  • A list of current medications
  • Referral paperwork or prior imaging (if available)
  • Glasses or contact lenses (if you wear them)
  • Sunglasses for comfort after dilation

What Happens During Your Visit

  • Check-In & Review of Medical History: We’ll confirm your information and ensure we understand your background
  • Imaging & Pupil Dilation: High-resolution imaging and dilation to view your retina in detail
  • Comprehensive Eye Exam: The doctor will examine your eyes thoroughly, explain findings, and discuss any necessary treatments
